I Started playing drums at 15 years old. I’m born in December 1977 in Montréal. I’ve been 2 years practicing by myself trying to find some beats and new fills! In 1995, I studied for half a year in college, but I needed something else!
In 1996, I met Disembarkation, the first Metal band I played with. We recorded 'Rancorous Observision' in 1999, the first full length album from Disembarkation, which was released on Neoblast records. The band split in 2002.
In 2003-2004, Neuraxis contacted me and asked me to help them for upcoming tours in Canada & Québec, Europe and the USA. The same year, 2003, I met the guys in Augury and we recorded 'Concealed', released on Galy Records in September of 2004. We did a couple shows around Canada and toured 3 times. Once with Quo Vadis as the headlining band, the second time with Unexpect. After the second Canadian tour in May 2006, I decided to quit Augury. In October 2006, Aborted called me to help them until they could find a permanent drummer. I did 6 shows with them in Belgium and France.
In december 2007 I recorded the drum tracks for 'Fragmentary Evidence', cause Augury were still looking for a drummer. Nuclear Blast released it this summer, 2009.
In august 2008 I entered studio with Vengeful at Flo Mounier’s, to record 11 songs. Tempted by Nightmares; a 5 song promo with a bonus of 3 older songs re-recorded + 2 promo songs of the upcoming album 'The Omnipresent Curse'. This contains 8 songs with the last one being 18 minutes… (w/Luc Lemay as guest vocalist).
In October 2008, I did my last tour with Augury, as support band for Dismember around Canada for the third time.
A couple years prior, in October 2005, I was starting to pratice with Steeve Hurdle (ex-Gorguts) in his project called 'Negativa'. A year later, in September, we recorded the Mcd. In June 2007 we recorded a second promo cd that only needs vocals tracked, and is about to be done. Finally…!
In 2009, many things are happening! 3 projects on the go! Empathy Denied, Quadrivium and Zillah. All three to be recording this Autumn/Winter 2009-2010 at Wild Studio, St-Zénon, Qc.(www.wildstudio.ca)

Review: MetalUniverse
"So, we now move to the drums. The drummer of the band is very skilled and can do a wide variety of different techniques. Blazingly fast blast beats, fast thrashing double bass sections, and even some jazzy and funky fills. He definitely sounds like a drummer that uses his full drum kit, as opposed to most death metal drummers who simple blast away with snare, double bass, and cymbals. One can certainly hear this drummers use of various tom drums. Some of the more unique drumming one hears is at the beginning of "Cosmic Migration" where there is a definite jazz influence. Excellent drumming."
Etienne Gallo Interview:
SD.com: What do you like and dislike most about touring? and what is the hardest part of touring for you?
Etienne: Really enjoy touring... We meet so many different people and culture... We hear some new bands every night. The only thing that can be a little bit hard, is to be away from the people you love especially my girlfriend... and to sometimes sleep on a couch or a floor...! haha! But it's not usual at least!
SD.com: How old were you when you started playing?
Etienne: I started to play when I was 15-16... not very sure!
SD.com: Did you play in a school band or any drum corps?
Etienne: No...!
SD.com: Ever take any lessons?
Etienne: I did try a couple times, but finally I learned the most with the bands I played with. I've been half a year in college, but I quit!

SD.com: Who are your top 3 influences?
Etienne:: Neil Peart, Virgil Donati and Sean Reinert
SD.com: Assuming that influences doesn't mean favorites, who are your favorites?
Etienne: Dirk Verburen (Soilwork, Scarve), Thomas Lang, Thomas Haake (Meshuggah), Morgan Agren, Vinnie Calauita, Patrice Hamelin (Martyr).
SD.com: Let us know 5 CD's that are in your current rotation
Etienne: Scarve (Irradiant), Katatonia (The Great Cold Distance), Aborted (Slaughter & Apparatus...Upcoming Album), Cynic (Focus), Gojira (From Mars to Sirius)

SD.com: Do you practice any specific rudiments or combo's regularly?
Etienne: I try to practice what Derrek Roddy showed... the 4 Strokes with hands and feet, etc. I also pass lots of time improvising things! But for sure I practice rudiments... but the basics... Single-Double Strokes, paradiddles, double, triple, some flams... Triplets also...!
SD.com: What is your favorite part of your drum kit?
Etienne: Hehe... My 12" Snare made by Cadeson... My Canon Shells...
SD.com: Do you have any pre-show rituals?
Etienne: Yes, I do some Stretching... Arms and legs... I do warm up for legs and wrist... with single strokes! For about an hour!

SD.com: If you could give one piece of advice to young drummers, it would be...
Etienne: Practice, there is no secret. Always try to get over your limits!
SD.com: Who gave the best live performance you've ever seen?
Etienne: Meshuggah (Thomas Haake) & Virgil Donati (Planet X)
SD.com: If you had to stop drumming, what else would you want to do with your life?
Etienne: ??? I Never think about that..But maybe I would visit the whole world with my backpack...!
