Living the dream. I taught myself how to play drums during my junior year in High School.  During that time I began to get more and more into extreme metal. For 12 years I played with my bands; "Tortured" and "Severed Head" in the local Washington/Baltimore scene.  While playing with Severed Head I was picked up to play in Covenance for a Dying Fetus tour.  This is where Dying Fetus found me.  After that tour, I got the call to try out.

Trey Williams Interview:

SD.com: How old were you when you started playing?

Trey: I started playing drums around 16-17 years old, during my junior year in high school. After the drummer in my 1st band left for college.  I borrowed his kit till I could afford one of my own.

SD.com: Did you play in a school band or any drum corps at all?

Trey: No.  I am self trained.

SD.com: Who are your top 5 metal influences?

Trey: Canderia, helmet,  pantera, sick of it all,  dying fetus

SD.com: Who are some other of your favorites?

Trey: non metal influences Aphex Twin, Mr.Bungle,  Busta Rhymes,  Hall & Oats, and other strange choices.

SD.com: Let us know 5 CD's that are in your current rotation

Trey: canderia (entire library),  Origin antithesis,  Howard Stern ( I know it's not a cd),  M.O.P the ante up remix.  and some mix cd of bands i dont know the names of.

SD.com: What do you do to warm up before a show?

Trey: 15 min. before the show I set up my pedals and kick practice pads up along with my snare. i just play anything i feel like i need to work on that day. some rudiments with my hands and feet.  try to play with control. and just relax for a moment  or get my self pumped for the show to come.

SD.com: Do you read music? Regardless of answering yes or no, please tell us how it might have effected your playing?

Trey: I have a basic knowledge of sheet music.  I guess it really has had no effect on my playing yet.

SD.com: Can you tell us about the gear you use?

Trey: I use Sabian Cymbals right now.  I got this piece of shit, beat to crap  snare,  which I love.  The bearing edges are like mountain ranges.

SD.com: If you could give one piece of advice to young drummers, it would be...

Trey: After you are done practicing, surround you're self with very motivated people. they will be you're best bet at getting somewhere.

SD.com: Who gave the best live performance you've ever seen?

Trey: Canderia at this church show in college park ,MD. back in 2000 i think.  After that show i was a fan.

SD.com: Aside from drumming, what else do you like to do?

Trey: I like to play paintball when i get the chance. and Video games
