I start playing thanks to bands like Nirvana and Gun's 'n' Roses and I immediately formed my first hard rock band, and soon I started to take lessons. I had an hard-working year with a teacher and later on I followed a personal path, according to my preferences and what I wanted to play.In the following years I recorded some demos and I had the chance to experiment lots of genres like punk-rock, progressive rock and heavy metal. But soon I discovered my passion for extreme metal thanks to bands like Death, Suffocation and Cannibal Corpse.

In 2006 I started playing in the band “the Archetype” (melodic death metal) and I joined “Sickening”, a death metal band active since 2003, which had already recorded a demo and a split with the “Zora” (brutal death metal band from Vibo Valentia, Italy). In the following months I started playing live with both bands, doing lots of dates.

In the summer 2007 I recorded my first full-length with Sickening “Ignorance Supremacy” produced by Nice To Eat You Records and Sevared Records (for the USA). In the summer of 2008 I recorded my first full-length with The Archetype and I participate at the Mountains of Death with Sickening; with this band we've partecipated at the NTEY Death Fest in the october of 2008, in Germany and Czech Republic.

SD.com: How old were you when you started playing?

Marco: I began playing when I was 16 years old without serious intentions but the passion grew fast. I immediately started taking lessons and I formed a band because of the growing will and love playing this instrument.

SD.com: Did you play in a school band or any drum corps?

Marco: In Italy there aren't such kind of things, there are only private schools that can be considered similar.

SD.com: Who are your top 5 metal influences?

Marco: I use to learn the most from every drummer either extreme that not. But the ones who influenced my the most are:

1) Vinnie Paul & Gene Hoglan.
2) Pete Sandoval
3) Mike Smith
4) John Longstreth
5) Romain Goulon

SD.com: Who are some other of your favorites?

Marco: Dave Weckl, JoJo Mayer, Steve Smith, Gavin Harrison, Dom Famularo, John Blackwell, Virgil Donati and many others...

SD.com: What do you do to warm up before a show?

Marco: I do single strokes with hands and feet on pad for 30 minutes and stretch my arms and wrists.

SD.com: Do you read music? Regardless of answering yes or no, please tell us how it might have effected your playing?

Marco: I early learned to write and read music, but I started to do it when I formed my first metal bands. It allows me to understand deeply what I have to do, 'cause sometimes the composition and the arrangement of riffs and songs is really complex. Also because my memory sometimes falls so having the possibility to write and read  music helps me to remember :D

SD.com: Can you tell us about the gear you use?

Marco: I use Sabian, Ufip and Wuhan Cymbals, Pearl drums, Vic Firth 5AN, Pearl Eliminator Double Pedal, Ddrum Pro (bass drum trigger) and Alesis D4.

SD.com: If you could give one piece of advice to young drummers, it would be...

Marco: Constant exercise and lot of patience; never forget the use of metronome and, when learning new techniques, execute them slowly, to learn completely the right movements and also play a lot with your band...the technique isn't everything!

SD.com: Who gave the best live performance you've ever seen?

Marco: Adam Jarvis and George Kollias with Nile....Incredible!!!  I hope I'll soon have the chance to see John Longstreth with Origin and Romain Goulon

SD.com: If you had to stop drumming, what would you want to do with your life?

Marco: I don't know sincerely, however, being music and drums my passions, I'd try to remain in the drummers sector, maybe being a roadie for a drummer of a band with lots of cute chicks as followers!
