welcome to me... (what do you think?) 3 Years, 8 Months ago Karma: 0
hi, my name is kyle judkins - ive been drumming sence christmas of 06', and im not in a band, but i wish i were... im a native to the kollias forums and today i decided to try out the blastology and sickdrummer forums(just to meet more peeps)

i play guitar(i used to play for a band called firethorn - myspace.com/firethornmetal) i sing above high C without falsetto,i can do all kinds of different screams pretty well(but i like singing more), im into(or was) music theory/composition - namely baroque and early classical(not so metal) and sang in chorus while i was in highschool(again, not so metal) i like musicals(cmon now, do i even like metal?) and obviously i play the drums...

i pretty much started playing the drums because i couldnt find a metal drummer ever - so im working on it, and now i cant find metal guitarists in my area... im all about death/gore/grind and some black/melo black... i dont really care for hardxcore or its spawns, and i dont like very much tonal music(after a while it gets pretty boring) i also love power metal, and used to play Dungeons and dragons every week with my friends(but ones in the navy the other is in sweden)

my big influences are kollias/roddy and im pretty big on KC howard

this is my latest video, i would like to hear what you think

enjoy

That's funny I'm pretty much have the exact same story (except I'm a bit older, I think). But, I'm a guitarist who switched over to drums because (1) there we not many metal drummers in my area (2) the drummer was always the weak link in past bands.
While I was in my last band I started watching my drummer and seeing what he's doing, analyzing his technique and seeing what I think he did right and did 'wrong'.
I've also run into similar problems once you become the drummer then there aren't many guitarist's and I'm in the same band right now and not quitting because its too hard to find other people.
ANYWAY, your playing I can tell is gonna be really good later. But, right now your suffering from poor consistency! Its better to play slow and clean and consistent than fast.
I think your making a mistake by sorta skipping ahead to the fast stuff quickly. So like I said work on your control because when your playing in a band if you drop the beat, then the whole song is F'd up! You don't really notice when you playing by yourself because when you make a mistake playing by yourself you just sorta roll right through it.
So, my advice is work on those 4/4 beats and playing consistent, because if its not even its good for nothing.

haha yeah well my two drummer friends were like WTF dude, you can play way better doubles than that... but my bass drums are muffed to hell and back(for sound control reasons) and usually i have my power amp booming the triggers, along with the triggers in my isolations... however - my splitter broke, and i had to direct in to the computer, so i simply couldnt hear my bass drums...

also i screw up so bad when it comes to making videos... i dunno what it is - i can play infront of every drum got in the world and not have a problem, but i turn on the camera and i turn to poop... i can hold grooves in 15/8 without a problem, and the camera rolls and blarg... the good thing is i know my rhythm very well, and can NORMALLY play pretty clean/fast doubles... im waiting to get a video that serves me justice... my drum friends werent impressed by the video and said i could do better, but i think thats the best video ive put out yet...

i just really want to jam with people... ive been playing sence christmas of 06' but ive quit the drums 3 times now, because it takes so much work and i still cant find people to play with...

but its a shame, i like to play a groove thats similiar to "of genocide" by decrepit birth, with the 16ths and 32nds in spurts... and the only one i did in the 28 minute session that the video's originally a part of, was horrible... thats one of my fav grooves but its weird, with two bass drums its hard to tell if you are flamming or not... sence you get sound from two sources it sounds like you are alternating when you may or may not be...

thanks for the compliment! hopefully you can move down here, and well make our own band where we switch on and off between guitar and drums

are you in fact doing "doubles" on the bass drum? are you doing Right Right, Left Left? or RLRLRLRL?
Lately every gig I'm playing is without triggers. Because they are such small places that don't even mic the bass drum. That's when you really have to 'push' and work your ass of to have your bass drum heard at all speeds (high and low). I listened to your bands myspace, I like it, I like the Merciful fate like high vocals.

im doing single strokes RLRLRLRL and trust me, im playing hard... my bass drums are muffled and dont have holes in the back, so i can control wether or not im loud... unfortuntly i cant hear the triggers(hence alot of the flamming) i decided a long time ago that trigger tapping is lame, and heel toe is lame... i can do single strokes pretty loud(loud enough to to 1 foot slower double bass parts and no one really notice)

pretty much, if you are going to play fast and have the triggers sounds ridiculous, it had better FEEL like im pushing those speeds out... thats why i put alot of ass into my stick work... all of my heads are either missing lugs or detuned on a few of them - which reduces any "bounce" however i think that even though i cant play blast beats at 300 bpms all day, i think my stick work just sounds like just that... work

ohh , btw... thanks... but no thanks... i was the lead guitarist of that band, but we kind of slowly dissolved... crap went down with the drummer and bassist... then we hated the drummer, then we couldnt find one - then we wanted to jam again, but the other guitarist and vocalist have more bands now, so the drummer doesnt want to come back, because itll be "half ass" all kinds of band drama...

thanks though... we were pretty rockin for a local band... we made 9 songs(all pretty cruisin) in about a month and a half then played 4 shows which were at the ymca 3 times and a house once... but they were all pretty siq...

haha during one of the songs at the ymca a kid picked up a metal chair and took it into the pit... i cant say ive been more afraid in my life! (and we barely have "breakdowns")

its a shame my fave song isnt on the myspace...
