NYC-based death metal band
PYRRHON seeks a new drummer. PYRRHON plays progressive/experimental death metal with other eclectic influences. Our most direct influences include Gorguts, Morbid Angel, Death, Ulcerate, Burnt By The Sun, Atheist, Meshuggah, Immolation, Suffocation and more. We also strive to subtly incorporate other disparate influences into our sound, from jazz to noise rock to classical.
PYRRHON is based in New York City and we formed two years ago. Our discography includes a demo and an EP (the EP, entitled 'Fever Kingdoms' will be released by The Path Less Traveled Records in October). We are currently working on material for a full length, which we plan to record in early 2011. Our concert experience is limited to the New York City area, however we have shared the stage with Misery Index, Evoken, The Binary Code, Clinging to the Trees of a Forest Fire, Gloominous Doom, Hung, Criminal Element, Liturgy, Flourishing, Lethean, The Communion, Abdicate, Animals Killing People, Humanity Falls and more.
What we are looking for in a drummer...
As far as pure skill goes, you must be technically proficient in death metal drumming. You should be able to play along with the bands we listed as influences without trouble. Blast beats, double bass and other such death metal techniques should be second nature to you. You should also be able to internalize odd time signatures and polyrhythmic motifs with relative ease. Training and experience in jazz, classical and/or rock are huge benefits but are not necessarily required. You must also be highly enthusiastic about expanding your musical vocabulary and pushing yourself as a musician. We are constantly battling to improve ourselves as musicians and to transcend the boundaries that have traditionally been applied to heavy music.
Aside from the aforementioned traits, you must be willing to dedicate a considerable amount of time to the band. We rehearse twice a week, and you will obviously need to practice on a regular basis outside of group rehearsals. We have our own practice space in Williamsburg, Brooklyn (which we share with Flourishing and Wetnurse, two other NYC extreme metal bands). You must have your own kit which you will be willing to store in the practice space, however you can also use the space as a practice studio when it is not being used for rehearsal by the other bands.
The bottom line is that we are looking for somebody who is above all enthusiastic, modest, highly motivated and forward thinking.
