I'm looking for a loud, "pingy" ride that doesn't over-sustain. Any advice?

It is fairly typical for drummers to head for the Zildjian or Sabian racks when they start looking for cymbals. And there's a reason: Both companies make some fantasic cymbals. As well, a lot of great drummers swear by them.

However, you may be looking for something that is absolutely - I mean EXACTLY - what you're looking for in one or all of the other racks. Namely, Istanbul, Paiste, Meinl, Bosphorus, or several of the other great cymbal makers.

If you have a chance to check out cymbals by some of these other cymbal makers, you may find your dream Ride.

Good Luck!

Sabian: AA Metal X, AAX Metal, HH leopard, HH power bell.

Just about anything by Paiste.

Sabian also makes custom cymbals, takes a LONG time to get them, but I did it, and have a badass custom Ride. Extra heavy, 20" 22-sized bell, high profile, heavily hand hammered, unlathed.

Sabian APX Ride is really good, I'm liking it so far.
