Triggers / Microphones:
I used microphones for recording the drums; I have no idea which brand or models. Triggers were only used for monitoring my bass drums, not for the recording! I used an Alesis DM5, but you can't hear that sound on the record.
Studio Tips:
Intense warming up before starting to record is a must. Then you're automatically into playing and it will be much easier to focus on what you want to express with your playing. Take at least 40 minutes to warm up and get concentrated. If you feel a lack of concentration during the recording process, take a break. Don't try to think about any restrictions such as time or the number of songs you still have to record while playing. Just focus on the moment. Try to motivate yourself before starting to record. For me it works with listening to drummers that I like or watching a drum DVD. Also listen to the advice of the sound engineer! Usually he has more experience and knows what will sound right.
Drummer Comments:
For me it's important to have fun while recording. The surroundings are also very important, such as entertainment asides from recording (X-Box, reading, watching movies) or a nice place to sleep. I didn't put on new heads on my bass drums, so I was totally used to the rebound of the bass drum. It is not an advantage for the sound to put on new bass drum heads. The sound difference of new and used bass drum heads is marginal.
