These are portions of my first attempt to drum along a new Spectral song, put together. Of course, because I'm in the learning process of the parts and their succession and not focusing at all on "the how" at the moment, this is rather NOT tight playing. I also recently had a 10-day vacation off the drums altogether, which really diminished some of my ability of playing clean and tight speedy stuff.
The fast parts are to be played at 260 bpm, which is quite a challenge at this time for me, given that I'm playing only single foot traditional blasts in this song, as well as some bomb blasts.
This was also a test for some of my new little gear aquisitions: a Sabian AAX Dry Ride, which enables me to use 2 ride cymbals now, an LP cowbell (actually, not played in this video, but it's there, under the hats, ha ha), as well as some Vic Firth Dave Weckl Evolution sticks. They also helped getting a softer sound than my Vater 5Bs and, as you can see, I'm not hitting as hard here as I do live, because the room isn't big enough for that.
