*Here is my Mars Volta Medley - Jon Theodore http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMXRc1UDR3w This was filmed and recorded as one continuous, single take with no editing to the videos or drums in post production I put this medley together to show my interpretation of some of my favorite Tomas Haake/Meshuggah moments. I did this solely to challenge myself. Once I had chosen the grooves I wanted I arranged them using Ableton Live with no edits or tempo changes. I was aiming for flow, groove and climax with the arrangement. I committed the whole medley to memory and learnt it all by ear. I do not transcribe. I played along to the medley in my in ears with no click track except at 1:54 and 8:26 where the drums stop momentarily. The details of the tracks are: 0:00 'Stengah' - Nothing (0:00-0:48, 1:43-2:06, 4:20-4:44, 5:16-5:53) 1:54 'Glints Collide' - Nothing (1:11-1:24 x2) 2:21 'Rational Gaze' - Nothing (0:00-0:28, 2:24-3:00) 3:25 'Perpetual Black Second' - Nothing (2:47-3:13) +1 bar freestyle 3:52 'Spasm' - Nothing (2:32-2:46) 4:06 'This Spiteful Snake' - obZen (3:16-3:30) 4:20 'In Death In Life - Catch 33 (0:00-0:15) 4:36 'Dancers to a Discordant System' - obZen (0:48-1:03, 4:09-4:25, 5:57-6:11) 5:20 'Pineal Gland Optics' - obZen (0:00-0:30, 0:59-1:21) 6:12 'Electric Red' - obZen (1:01-1:45, 4:39-5:05) 7:23 'Lethargica' - obZen (3:03-3:30) 7:50 'obZen' - obZen (3:02-3:36) 8:24 'I' - I (16:01-16:18, 16:58-17:16, 19:59- 21:00) All songs written by either/or/and: Tomas Haake Fredrik Thordendal Marten Hagstrom I always play a four-piece kit but this cymbal arrangement was specifically for the medley.
